Why have your trees milled?
Save money by cutting out the middle man and get custom milled wood at amazing price!
We can get exotic breeds of lumber and receive fresh lumber daily.
Rough cut lumber is affordable and has lots of “character” and is exactly what it sounds like, it’s rough cut and usually straight overall however it changes from board to board depending on blade sharpness and wood density. This type of lumber is primarily used by carpenters as raw material to build many things like furniture, cabinets, tables and such but must be planed to obtain a smooth texture. Feel free to ask us if you have any questions about rough cut lumber.
What to look for in buying Rough Lumber
When using Rough Lumber expect to lose around 3/16th -inch when planing the wood down to size. So choose hardwood lumber at least 1/4 inch or thicker than what your project requires.
Buy the rough lumber at a longer length due to the edges and ends of rough lumber can be jagged, and scarred, for finished wood work.
Top grade boards are not always the best looking, Spectacular boards cost no more than ordinary ones, however lumber grades depend of the yield not aesthetics. So sometimes you may receive more for smaller pieces than one large slab.
Don’t be afraid of warped lumber.
Most lumber boards will warp as they dry in some way or another and is common but we do everything we can to provide straight and flat lumber. Some warped lumber can be cupped, bowed, twisted or crooked but it can still be run through a planer and flattened before used.
Various types of lumber we use
Ailanthus, Ash, Basswood, Black Locust, Boxelder, Catalpa,Cedar, Eastern Red, Cherry, Black Cottonwood, Cypress, Southern, Dogwood Elm, Gum, Sweet Hackberry, Hickory-Pecan, Honey Locust, Kentucky Coffeetree, Maple, Hard Maple, Soft Mulberry, Oak, Red, Oak, white, Osage orange, Pear, Pine Poplar, Yellow, Sycamore, Walnut, Black
